Celebrating Leadership in Advancing AMR Solutions in Rwanda
Published by AMR Initiative Rwanda
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing global health threat that undermines the effectiveness of antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, and antiparasitics—placing human, animal, and environmental health at risk. Left unchecked, AMR could reverse decades of medical progress, jeopardize food security, and strain health systems.

Celebrating visionary leadership in Rwanda’s AMR response
Rwanda’s National Action Plan on AMR (2025–2029)
Through NAP AMR 2, Rwanda aims to strengthen its national response to AMR and contribute meaningfully to global efforts to preserve the efficacy of antimicrobial medicines. This plan focuses on:
- Improving surveillance and laboratory capacity
- Promoting responsible antimicrobial use in both human and animal health
- Advancing infection prevention and control across sectors
- Investing in research, education, and innovation
- Fostering collaboration through a One Health approach
With strong political leadership, sectoral coordination, and sustained international partnerships, Rwanda is well-positioned to make measurable progress in mitigating AMR’s threat to human, animal, and environmental health.
Moving Forward Together
At AMR Initiative Rwanda, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting NAP AMR 2 and continuing to engage a broad coalition of stakeholders. Together, we will protect public health, promote rational antimicrobial use, and set a strong example in the global AMR fight.
We commend these remarkable individuals for their leadership and contributions. Their efforts embody our shared mission: a safer, healthier Rwanda for all.
