Promoting responsible medicine use is key to public safety and fighting antimicrobial resistance.
AMR Initiative Rwanda, in collaboration with the Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority, urges all citizens to adopt safe and rational use of medicines. This is a vital part of our national strategy to fight antimicrobial resistance (AMR), a growing public health threat.
Rational medicine use means using the right medication, in the right dose, at the right time, and only when it is medically necessary. When medicines—especially antibiotics—are misused or overused, they can become less effective and lead to dangerous resistance in infections.
Everyone has a role to play. Follow these key steps to help protect yourself and your community:
These simple actions help reduce harmful side effects, ensure treatments work properly, and slow the development of resistance in bacteria. Practicing rational medicine use helps protect our families today and preserves essential medicines for future generations.
We call on every citizen, healthcare provider, parent, teacher, and young person to become an advocate for responsible medicine use. Let us all be champions in the fight against antimicrobial resistance and stewards of public health in our communities.
